Ilam, Nepal – In a significant move to preserve our rich historical heritage, we are esteemed to announce the inauguration of the historic Nisan Trail. This ancient path that was brought on use by the , the Sri Nath Paltan spanning from Ilam to Tista, this trail holds or is taken in regard to hold one of the most profound significance in Nepal’s history and culture.

following the non-violent Sugauli Treaty between Nepal and East India company (treaty that ended the Anglo-Nepalese War), the Sri Nath Paltan, a military unit stationed in Nagrigad, India, regarding administrative purposes on the expanded land after the treaty arrived at Purne Danda, Karfok (Currently Suryodaya Municipality ward 11) with Nisan (a ceremonial flag) in Ilam. The troops then later relocated towards Hattitar, Namasaling (currently located in Maizogmai Rural Municipality) due to security reasons and eventually moved to Maithan (currently located in Ilam Municipality) in 1875 A.D.

Thanks to the tireless efforts and continuous coordination of Mr. Yuddha Prasad Vaidya and several other local authorities with the commander of the Ranashardul Battalion, Mr. Pralahad Ghale we have been able to successfully trace the exact route with which the historic journey had been made.

For over a year, the local governments have diligently gathered evidence from various sources, which includes the likes of community members, elderly citizens, and local records in existence. Their dedication has been instrumental in making this project a reality.

Today, we embarked on a historic foot journey along the Nisan Trail, accompanied by the vibrant sounds of traditional music and the enthusiastic participation of our local communities. This marks a significant milestone in our efforts to keep the history of the Nisan Trail alive.

As for the future of Nisan trail, the Municipality is committed to ensuring that the significance of the Nisan Trail remains intact for which the municipality would incorporate the Nishan Trail into our local curriculum, inspiring future generations to cherish our heritage.
