Suryodaya’s Taste of Diplomacy: Tea at Sagarmatha Sambaad and Meetup with His Excellency of Japan to Nepal

As the Mayor of Suryodaya Municipality, I’m proud to share our recent participation in the Sagarmatha Sambaad, where we showcased our region’s cherished Black Orthodox Tea and engaged in meaningful dialogue on climate change and local heritage. This blog reflects our journey—from representing Nepal’s tea culture on an international platform to a promising diplomatic meetup with His Excellency, the Japanese Ambassador to Nepal, exploring avenues for tourism, disaster management, and stronger Nepal-Japan relations.

Showcasing Suryodaya’s Tea at Sagarmatha Sambaad

This has been a moment of immense honor as our municipality got to participate in the prestigious Sagarmatha Sambaad held in Kathmandu.

For anyone reading this wondering what Sagarmatha Sambaad really is, well in short it is an international dialogue whose focus remains primarily on impacts of climate change on Nepal’s Himalayas but on the global ecosystem.

Representing the municipality in this prestigious event is something that has been something to be proud of, we had the opportunity to share our perspectives regarding the subject on discussion and make our ideas and presence felt.

At the gathering we offered the participants with the tea tasting program, where anyone on the event were given the opportunity to savor the taste of aromatic Black Orthodox Tea, the signature tea product of our region which received particular attention and appreciation, promoting our locality furthermore.

The tasting session extended over all sessions of the three-day program, garnering attention and appreciation and impression from the international attendees as well as many Nepali participants who came to recognize the value and uniqueness of our tea heritage.

Last but not the least I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Nepal Tourism Board for facilitating this valuable platform.

Diplomatic Engagement: Meeting with His Excellency

Following the words of appreciation and recognition that our tea and ultimately our locality had in the Sagarmatha Sambaad, It was a privilege to meet with His Excellency Maeda Toru, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Nepal.

During the meet with His Excellency discussions regarding on several vital topics including tourism promotion, disaster management, and the enhancement of the tea industry .

His Excellency had recently accompanied a high-level delegation from Japan, and although time constraints prevented a direct visit to Suryodaya Municipality, I briefed him on our region’s potential and expressed our interest in hosting Japanese delegations in the future.

This meeting was a meaningful step toward strengthening our municipal relationship with the Embassy of Japan. I would like to express my sincere thankfulness to His Excellency for his patience, his structured diplomatic approach, and his interest in our municipality.

The municipal body is optimistic that this meetup with His Excellency would pave the way for future collaborations and cultural exchanges.
