Following are the decisions, actions and necessary steps taken on 24th of Ashoj following the aftermath of the incessant rainfall that occurred across Suryodaya Municipality on dates 18 and 19 of Ashoj.
Decisions and Actions Taken
- The damages caused by the rainfall of 18th and 19th Ashoj to road infrastructure, educational, and health institutions were assessed, and cost estimates for repair and maintenance were prepared. It was decided to begin the repair and maintenance works from 25th of Ashoj onwards.
- All the necessary documents for the construction of temporary shelters for displaced and affected families in the calamities were collected through the respective ward offices.
- Decision to deposit one day’s salaries of employees working under the Municipal Executive, Ward Offices, and Health Institutions of Suryodaya Municipality on Municipal Disaster Management Fund.
- Relief materials were distributed today, 24th Ashoj, to 6 households (4 from Ward 8 and 2 from Ward 10) which makes a total of relief distribution by the municipality to 33 affected households. Additionally, 6 tarpaulins were distributed to the affected families.
- The Municipal Executive, Ward Offices, and Health Institutions have come up with the decision to operate on weekend of Saturday, 25th Ashoj, to carry out disaster response, relief distribution, and other disaster management-related services.
- Details of necessary food and relief materials for disaster-affected families have been sent to the District Administration Office, and coordination has been made with interested organizations and donors to ensure timely availability of additional relief supplies.
- Various drinking water projects operating within the municipality area are undergoing aggressive repair and reconstruction with the local labour participation. Maintenance works at Srikhola and Rungsung sections of Fikkal Drinking Water Project has been completed, and repair works at Pandam and Baghdhare Projects are ongoing. Similarly, in ward 11 Aitbare, reconstruction and maintenance works are progressing rapidly with the support of local laborers. Drinking water supply has resumed from 24th of Ashoj in the Pashupatinagar area through coordination between the Pashupatinagar Drinking Water Project, local users, police, and concerned stakeholders.
- Relief materials received from the Ministry of Home Affairs for Sandakpur Rural Municipality and Ilam Municipality has been delivered under the supervision of the Armed Police Force Base Camp, Aitabare.
- The construction of the diversion road at the Maiyu River which connects Suryodaya Municipalty with Maijogmai Rural Municipality has been progressing rapidly, and partial operation has begun from 24th of Ashoj.
- Operation of equipment and machinery has been continued to reopen the obstructed local roads within the municipal area.
- For areas where the drinking water service has been disrupted, tankers have been deployed to supply drinking water, particularly in sections of Fikkal and Barbotey.
- As of today, a total of Rs. 1,61,000 has been collected in the Municipal Disaster Management Fund, contributed by:
• Private business operators of Suryodaya Municipality — Rs. 1,00,000
• Resident of Suryodaya Municipality — Rs. 51,000
• Chhipitar Tole Development Committee, Ward No. 8 — Rs. 10,000 - Personnel from the Municipal Police, staff, people’s representatives, and officials from various organizations have remained continuously active in rescue, relief distribution, and overall disaster response efforts.
