The forum brought together mayors and municipal leaders from around the world to exchange insights on advancing local governance through the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). During the discussions, Suryodaya’s frameworks and digital tools—such as the Suryodaya Digital Profile, Agriculture Portal, and the Official Municipal Website—were recognized for promoting transparency, efficient service delivery, and data-driven decision-making. This participation not only elevated Suryodaya’s presence in the international arena but also opened pathways for future collaboration, reinforcing the municipality’s vision of innovation, inclusivity, and global partnership.
On 26th Ashoj, Suryodaya Municipality undertook extensive post-disaster management and recovery efforts following the devastating rainfall of 18th–19th Ashoj that caused severe human and infrastructural losses. A municipal meeting led by the Chief Administrative Officer directed all sections to assess disaster impacts and report findings, while ward offices began collecting documents for temporary housing construction in line with national standards. Relief material reviews, health risk assessments, and agricultural and livestock damage evaluations were completed to ensure accurate recovery planning. Additional relief from the *One for One* campaign in Jhapa was distributed in coordination with the District Disaster Management Committee. The municipality also engaged donor agencies for continued aid, repaired damaged sections of key drinking water projects through local labor, and sought provincial and district-level technical assistance for further reconstruction. Road clearance and maintenance works were mobilized with heavy equipment, while community contributions such as drinking water support from Harrow Hall Academy helped address urgent needs. Municipal police, staff, representatives, and local organizations remain actively involved in ongoing rescue, relief, and rehabilitation operations.

As Mayor of Suryodaya Municipality, I had the honor of representing municipalities in the global discussions on developing a roadmap to ensure universal access to early warning systems for all types of hazards by 2027. With Nepal leading the “Early Warnings for All” initiative for 30 countries, I shared insights from our municipality’s experiences in disaster risk preparedness and reduction during a high-level panel discussion. The event, attended by senior government officials, UN agencies, and international organizations, provided an important platform to contribute local perspectives towards building stronger disaster resilience and advancing multi-hazard preparedness worldwide.
Suryodaya Municipality has been at the forefront of empowering small-scale farmers through innovative agricultural practices. One of its most successful initiatives, the sexed semen technology, ensures up to 90% female calves with higher milk yields, leading to greater income and improved livelihoods. By combining science, technology, and local dedication, the municipality is not only transforming dairy farming today but also securing a stronger, more productive dairy sector for the future.
Suryodaya Municipality is making decisive strides toward a greener and more inclusive future. From launching a multi-stakeholder Tea Trail and waste management initiative to empowering youth through vocational training and promoting clean energy with eco-friendly cooking stoves, the municipality is championing sustainability, citizen well-being, and smart development. These recent efforts reflect a growing commitment to collaboration, innovation, and environmental stewardship.
