Post-Disaster Management Efforts of Suryodaya Municipality (Ashoj 18–19 Incident)

Following are the decisions, actions and necessary steps taken on 22nd of Ashoj following the aftermath of the incessant rainfall that occurred across Suryodaya Municipality on dates 18 and 19 of Ashoj.

Decisions and Actions Taken

1. Suryodaya Municipality’s 4th executive meeting was held on the date Ashoj 22 (8th October) to make decisions and discussions to repair and make the roads across Municipality operational before Tihar.
2. A decision Further decisions include the initiation of repair and maintenance work effective from 8th October on the Maiyu River bridge, a river and road network that connects Suryodaya Municipality with Maijogmai Rural Municipality by Municipality in co-ordination with Maijogmai Rural Municipality.
3. The preliminary rapid assessment form was completed, and further necessary procedures for relief distribution was initiated.
4. Continuation of the National Identity Card program. Activities that require coordination with the federal and provincial governments will be advanced in coordination with the concerned authorities.

Relief Received

1. Suryodaya Municipality has already started providing relief to families whose houses were completely damaged from 7th October.
   To support the effort by the local level, United Fikkal Club, STF (Senior Team Fikkal), Suryodaya JCI, and private entrepreneurs have provided a large amount of relief materials, which have been officially received by the municipality.

Relief Distribution

1. Relief distribution has been carried out in Wards No. 9, 10, and other affected areas.
2. For drinking water repair, STF, United Fikkal Club, Suryodaya JCI, civil society members, and local residents have actively participated and volunteered for the restoration of drinking water supply as soon as possible.

Distribution of Rs. 2 lakhs per families in Relief

1. An amount of Rs. 2 lakhs per family that have been displaced due to the natural calamities occured in dates of 18th and 19th of Ashoj (October 4th and 5th) along with condolences.

Work has begun today at the Maiyung Khola site.

Maiyu River Bridge repair works

• Works to repair Maiyu River bridge and its nearby sites has been begun.
