As the Mayor of Suryodaya Municipality, I had the privilege to represent municipalities in discussion for the ongoing process of developing a roadmap to ensure universal access to early warning information for all types of hazards by the year 2027.
The program was graced by the presence of the hon. Minister for Home Affairs, the Home Secretary, the Chief Executive Officer of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, the UN Resident Coordinator, the UN WFP Country Director along with representatives from UNDP, UNDRR, IFRC, WMO, WFP, Kathmandu University, and senior government officials.
Since our municipality has been consistently making strides in the area of Disaster Risk Preparedness (DRP) and Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) I had privilege to share insights from the experiences we’ve had over the course of time as I took part in the panel discussion on Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) as the panelist.
It is a matter of national pride that Nepal has taken the lead in championing the “Early Warnings for All” initiative for 30 countries in areas of multi-hazard preparedness. On this significant occasion of developing the roadmap, I had the honor to present recommendations on behalf of Suryodaya Municipality.
