We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the UNDP for their insightful coverage of Suryodaya Municipality’s innovative approach to tourism transformation and economic development.
Under the collaborative efforts of Suryodaya Municipality and the Provincial and Local Governance Support Programme (PLGSP), with the technical support of the UNDP’s Innovative Partnership Fund, our municipality has embarked on a journey to revitalize our tourism sector.
A key focus of our strategy is decentralization, moving beyond traditional tourist hotspots like Kanyam and Shree Antu. By building new infrastructure, such as the 13.5 KM cycle track that connects the major tea gardens of kanyam and Pune danda, the stunning glass-deck suspension bridge at Mane Danda at ward 8 of suryodaya municipality, we aim to attract a younger generation of tourists, both domestic and international, particularly from neighboring countries like India, Bangladesh, and Bhutan.
We are also committed to empowering local communities through initiatives such as the Subsidized Market Center. This market provides affordable stalls for local entrepreneurs to sell their products to a huge number of tourists which includes the likes of tea, chhurpi, ginger, lentils, meat, local gift items, and local sweets. Additionally, our Homestay Program trains aspiring entrepreneurs to participate in the tourism sector, generating income and preserving our local culture in the proccess.
The support provided by the UNDP has been instrumental in our success. The significant increase in our annual gross revenue from tourism is a direct result of this partnership. We believe that our story of sustainable development and community engagement can serve as a model for other regions seeking to achieve similar goals.
Once again, we express our sincere thanks to the UNDP for their support and for highlighting our efforts on a global stage.
