As part of the unwavering commitment regarding the health and well-being among schoolgirls aged 10 to 19 women, Suryodaya Municipality has initiated a campaign to combat anemia among schoolgirls aged 10 to 19 women. Utilizing state-of-the-art non-invasive hemoglobin meters, we are conducting bloodless anemia screenings across all schools within our jurisdiction. This initiative aligns with our belief that “prevention is better than cure,” emphasizing proactive measures over reactive treatments.
Focus on anemia screening and iron supplementation
Anemia serves as a significant indicator of malnutrition, a challenge that we are determined to overcome. By identifying and addressing anemia early, the goal of this campaign is to break the cycle of malnutrition and mitigate future health risks.
To ensure the campaign of municipality achieves its desired goals, we have invested in advanced machinery to ensure accurate and efficient screenings. Furthermore, we are formulating plans, process and procedures to designate certain wards as “Nutrition-Friendly Wards,” reinforcing our dedication to holistic community health.
Building on our previous commitment towards ensuring safety of our Daughters.
About two months ago the municipality had successfully conducted an HPV vaccination campaign targeting daughters aged 10 to 14 which resulted on an astounding 90% vaccination rate among the targeted population on our jurisdiction.
This initiative was instrumental in protecting our daughters from cervical cancer, a leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the world. Building upon the success we’ve achieved on that campaign, our current anemia screening program aims to further safeguard the health of our daughters.
Implementation of the anemia screening program
Commencing from 18th of Chaitra 2081, Suryodaya Municipality has begun its campaign of anemia screenings for all female students aged 10 to 19 across our schools. Over the past two years, we have also intensified the distribution of iron tablets within educational institutions. Notably, a 26-week iron supplementation program achieved 100% participation among our schoolgirls, reflecting the community’s trust and cooperation.
Embracing innovative, child-friendly health solutions
Understanding the apprehension associated with traditional blood draws, especially among children, we have adopted non-invasive methods for hemoglobin testing. This approach alleviates fear, encourages participation, and streamlines the screening process. A testament to the efficacy of this method is evident from screenings conducted at Shree Krishnashram Secondary School, where no cases of anemia were detected among the students.
At Suryodaya Municipality, we remain steadfast in our mission to foster a healthier future for our daughters. Through innovative health initiatives and unwavering community engagement, we are dedicated to ensuring that every young woman has the opportunity to thrive.
